What Are We Celebrating Today --- Friday, May... | Gather
TGIF, I think. Mike may have to work late today and work this weekend, so there is no time off for us. It's not like we can do anything anyway, as we have NO money right now....just lots of bills.
Angela is now a sophomore too...(sniff, sniff). My baby is getting so grown up.
1). National Tap Dance Day: This is Angela's favorite one of the day, and yes, she does have tap tonight. This day was created in honor of the birthday of legendary tap dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson on May 25, 1878. This is a true holiday as US Joint Resolution declared May 25th National Tap Dance Day, and ?President George Bush signed it into law as a national day on November 7, 1989. Put on some tap shoes and dance away!
2). National Missing Children's Day:?The roots of National Missing Children's Day goes back to the 1970s and 1980s. A number of high profile child abductions revealed no organized plans and efforts to find missing children. The first case was Etan Patz who disappeared from a New York City street while on his way to school, on May 25, 1979. Now we have America's Most Wanted which does showcase at least one missing child each episode, though the show was recently cancelled. Please pray for the children and their families. I just can't imagine what the families go through, especially when it's a non-relative kidnapping.
3). Nerd and Geek Pride Day: Yes, a holiday made just for my son and hubby. THis holiday is to promote geek and nerd?culture, and?the date was chosen as to commemorate the release of the first Star Wars film on 25 May 1977. You can't get much geekier than that....LOL For more info, if you really want it, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerd_Pride_Day
4). Towel Day: I think this one goes right along with #3. Towel Day is an annual celebration on the 25th of May, as a tribute to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001). For those of you how don't recognize the name, he's the author of The Hitchhiker's Guide Books.?So today, fans around the universe proudly carry a towel in his honor. Why a towel you ask? Well, a towel is one of the most useful items anyone can have....and I guess Adams's books give more information about it.
5). World MS Day: Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease that can affect different people differently, but it's a still a terrible disease. It is one of the most common disabling neurological conditions amongst young adults in the northern hemisphere, and over 2,000,000 people in the world have MS. I know several people that have MS, including a friend and also one of Pher's teachers.
6). National Senior Health & Fitness Day: 100,000+ older adults will participate in health promotion events at more than 1,000 local organizations. Senior Health & Fitness Day is??the nation's largest older adult health and fitness event and?is entering its 19th year. Wow! I know I have quite a few Gather friends that may fit in this category, so go celebrate this one! http://www.fitnessday.com/ Go to the website and register....and find events in your area.
I have to keep this a little quiet, or I'll end up watching a Star Wars marathon? with Mike and Angela. I bet the two of them could watch those movies over and over with no break.
