App Player lets you run Android apps on your Mac

Covering hacks where Android and Apple merge into one is always interesting, mainly because they appear to be such an unlikely duo. Although it seems that the theory of opposites attracting holds true, as one company has Android apps and OS X working in perfect harmony.

BlueStacks? Android App Player software lets you access thousands of apps in the Google Play store, and install them on your Mac. The software?which is currently free of charge when you sign up as a tester on the BlueStacks website?launched just outside the Google I/O event on June 27, and bizarrely featured an actual wedding tent to mark the beginning of a beautiful pairing between Google?s mobile apps and Apple?s OS.

At present, the one downside is that there are only 17 apps available to download for your computer, mainly from BlueStacks? developer partners. However, the company adds that it will be inviting more Android developers and their software to the application monthly, with the hope of producing more tablet-friendly, high resolution apps.

The player for Mac is currently a public alpha, and like anything new there could be a few kinks in need of ironing out. The team is keen to get feedback though, so if you do sign up be sure to share any errors you encounter.

Windows users, don?t worry, you?re not being left out: Android App Player is already available for you too.

While this new software could come in useful for testing out apps not available on either the Mac App Store or iTunes App store, I can?t help but see the likes of Angry Birds in full screen being somewhat distracting?
