Summer Collegiate Baseball Roundup: San Luis Obispo Blues give up 16 runs in fourth straight loss

The San Luis Obispo Blues continued their worst slide of the summer collegiate baseball season after getting blown out 16-3 to the Menlo Park Legends in their fourth consecutive loss at SLO Stadium on Friday night.

The Blues (16-10) allowed 12 hits and committed four errors.

Menlo Park scored eight of its runs in the ninth, when San Luis Obispo used three different pitchers to get through the inning.

Jeff Keller and Grant Nelson both went 3 for 5 for the Legends, with Nelson finishing with a home run and five RBI.

Skylar Brewer also finished with a homer for the Legends, who got a solid outing from pitcher Raymond Torres after he threw seven innings with three strikeouts.

The Blues tied it at 3 with a two-run third inning before adding another score in the fourth.

But Menlo Park added five more runs in the top of the fifth for a 7-3 lead.

Brandon Carr went 2 for 4 and Tanner Witt finished with two RBI for San Luis Obispo.

PALM SPRINGS POWER 8, SLO RATTLERS 5

Michael Nieporte went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Marc Flores was 2 for 4, but the San Luis Obispo Rattlers (19-9) lost on the road in a summer collegiate baseball game despite collecting 10 hits.

San Luis Obispo led 3-0 in the second, but the Power exploded for a five-run third inning to take a 5-3 lead.

The Rattlers managed to tie it at 5 in the top of the fifth with two runs, but Palm Spring went on to score twice in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh.

Charlie Sharrer finished with a triple, and Scott Shields had a two-RBI double for the Rattlers.
