Cagleonline - Since 2001Anti-virus Software Program Is The Initial ...

Anti-virus software program is the initial thing many people believe of when on-line security is required. And less individuals even think about firewall software program when they are shopping around for software. But this is not truly shocking considering the reputation of antivirus software and the misunderstanding of the uses of firewall software and other safety functions like anti-spyware and anti-spam.

With internet safety software program, you get antivirus and firewall protection in one plan. So you don?t have to buy them separately and spend much more money for possibly much less safety.

There are numerous great internet safety applications in the security business. But Kaspersky has the best anti-virus and firewall software program combination in its web safety software program. And it has passed numerous tests and has some of the best functions and resources.

Anti-virus

Kaspersky?s anti-virus plan is so effective, its technologies has been adopted by over 120 companies for use in their goods. And several certifications attest to the virus scanner as one of the most effective towards malware threats.

Its virus signatures are updated regularly and this describes its effectiveness towards new and conventional virus threats. And it also utilizes proactive behavioural detection to find and shield your Computer from new malicious software program threats.

Its System Watcher function screens your Pc for any suspicious file conduct. And should it unintentionally block a genuine program (false positive), it rolls back again the method to a previous operating state.

Kaspersky Anti-virus has been tested and authorized by all the top check labs. And Virus Bulletin has awarded it the VB100% score for its efficient detection and elimination of virus threats.

Firewall

The Kaspersky firewall is powerful and yet extremely simple to use. It is easily configurable and that is down to filtering particular ports and information kinds. Exams carried out by Leading Ten Critiques show that it stopped several attempts to deliver threats from their test device to others in the network.

Kaspersky has the gamer method function which allows the firewall to continue to operate with out presenting any interruptions like pop-ups, scans and updates. So this means you won?t have to turn off the firewall as you appreciate video clip games or watch films and movies in full-display.

Kaspersky?s standalone anti-virus program also consists of a firewall so you can buy this one instead,

if you do not need antispyware and anti-spam safety although we do not recommend it. However, the firewall is as effective as the one you get in the internet security suite and you get a three-user license which protects up to three computer systems for a cheap cost.

Summary

BitDefender Internet Security is another program with one of the very best anti-virus and firewall software program mixtures. It has numerous functions and resources also and we suggest you read its full evaluation on our website prior to downloading software for your Computer. In reality, BitDefender overall has the very best internet safety software and beats Kaspersky in other areas. However, Kaspersky is an extraordinary security program and its antivirus software is definitely above the rest.

Lady Liberty?s crown reopens to visitors this weekend

15 hrs.

For one of the best views of New York, you have to get inside a great lady?s head.

Starting this weekend, it?s possible again as the Statue of Liberty crown reopens to the public on Sunday after a year of renovations. Visitors seeking magnificent vistas of the Big Apple and a glimpse of the famous monument?s inner workings are already snapping up tickets online.

?It?s an experience that stays with you for your entire lifetime,? said Chris Heywood, a spokesman for New York City?s official tourism agency NYC & Company, who still remembers making the climb as a child.

?The Statue of Liberty remains one of the city?s most iconic attractions and there certainly will be a pent up demand for visitors to want to go up and see the crown.?

The renovations promise better access and safer conditions. There are two new staircases, a new elevator inside the pedestal and a lift that will take visitors who are mobility impaired higher into the monument than ever before, said Mindi Rambo, a spokeswoman for the National Parks of New York Harbor.

?For the first time, people in wheelchairs will be able to go up to the top of the pedestal and actually see into the statue, whereas before, the highest level that they ever really got to was the museum level,? Rambo said.

?The lift is brand new, we?ve never had that before and we?re very excited about it.?

There is no elevator service from Lady Liberty?s feet to her head, so visitors must still go up a double spiral staircase to reach the crown. Official pamphlets warn it?s a strenuous journey, but Heywood recalled that it feels short ?when you?re looking forward to a view that?s stunning.?

It takes adults up to 20 minutes to make the climb depending on whether they stop to examine the statue?s inner architecture and copper skin, Rambo said.

?You can see the folds of the robe, the interior of the statue, and many people find that fascinating. They stop to take photos and point things out to their kids like, ?Oh, that looks like the back of her heel,?? Rambo said.

Once at the top, only 10 adults can fit inside the crown, a space that?s much smaller than people expect, Rambo added. Visitors often tell park rangers that they have come because they remember making the trip as a child and want their kids to have the same experience.

?I think part of that is just driven by the ability to say that they have made that climb and to look out into the harbor and, I suppose in a way, to look back in time to when people came on the big steam ships,? Rambo said.

The crown will be open each week from Thursday through Sunday. If you?d like to visit, you must make a reservation through Statue Cruises ? the monument?s ferry transportation provider.

Tickets became available on October 1 and sales have been brisk: just a few dates in December remain available for 2012.

This is the second time in recent years that the National Park Service is reopening the statue?s crown. The attraction was closed after the 9/11 attacks for security reasons and then reopened on July 4, 2009.

The chance to make the climb will give travelers just one more reason to visit New York, which is on track to set another record year for tourism, Heywood said.

Sunday?s crown reopening also coincides with the 126th anniversary of the statue?s dedication.

Former Insurance Sales Agent Claims Auto Club Discriminated ...

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com)?? A former Auto Club insurance agent is blowing the whistle on an alleged customer discrimination scheme.

Jill Rogers, who was employed by AAA of Southern California for 15 years, is seeking class-action status for a lawsuit accusing the insurer of giving financial incentives to agents who deny policies or insurance to uninsured drivers.

Rogers, who worked for three years as a sales agent, said the company rewarded agents who turned down uninsured customers.

?I wasn?t happy with the way they were doing business, so I chose to walk away,? she said.

An attorney with the Consumer Watchdog Group, who is representing Rogers, says it is illegal to discriminate against uninsured drivers seeking policies.

?It?s not legal,? attorney Harvey Rosenfield said. ?The law says an insurance company can?t take into consideration the absence of prior auto insurance.?

During a news conference, Rogers demonstrated how the Auto Club used a score card to evaluate new customers. In one category, agents get zero points or just $20 when writing a policy for first-time drivers or an uninsured driver.

If the new applicant has insurance, the agent gets 35 points ? which the lawsuit claims equals hundreds of dollars in commission.

?A lot of agents would hang up on customers because they didn?t want to take time for $20 policies when the next call could be a hundred dollar policy,? Rogers said.

In 2008, the Auto Club paid $22.5 million to thousands of policy holders for imposing surcharges of uninsured drivers. Now attorneys say the company found a new way to make money.

?Clearly punishing agents to discourage them to sell policies to people without prior insurance is a black letter violation of the law voters passed in 1988,? Rosenfield said.

The Auto Club said the lawsuit was inaccurate and without merit and released this statement:

?If the plaintiff can provide us with information as to who is providing poor service to uninsured applicants, we will certainly investigate these allegations.?

The class action lawsuit is asking for thousands of current and past insurance agents with the Auto Club to be reimbursed for lost commissions and seeks to stop what they call an illegal practice.

Apple stock falls under $600 after holiday warning

(AP) ? Apple's stock fell below $600 on Friday for the first time in three months, after the consumer electronics behemoth warned that costs of making new products will cut into profits in the holiday quarter.

Apple's earnings for the latest quarter also missed expectations.

Apple shares were down $11.26, or 1.9 percent, to $598.28 in afternoon trading.

Late Thursday, Apple said profits for the rest of the year would fall from last year because it's launching so many new products. It's expecting mammoth sales, but new products are more expensive to make than older ones.

Apple launched the iPhone 5 a month ago and announced two new iPads and three new Macs this week. In addition, it's shipping new iPods.

Wall Street analysts took the adjustment in stride, knowing that Apple nearly always lowballs its estimates, but several cut their earnings estimates for the fiscal year that started this month. Stuart Jeffrey noted that Apple's profit margins should be back to normal in the quarter that starts in April, but that will be too late to fully make up for the earnings hit in the holiday quarter. He cut his earnings estimate for the year by 10 percent and his price target on the shares from $710 to $660.

Apple shares have now lost more than $100 from their all-time peak of $705.07, hit on Sept. 21, the day the iPhone went on sale in the U.S. and eight other countries. That's a total loss to investors of $106 billion. Apple remains the most valuable public company in the world, by a wide margin, with a total market capitalization of $556 billion.

Apple's stock last fell below $600 following an earnings report as well. It missed expectations in the previous quarter, too, something rare for Apple.

The Cupertino, Calif., company started taking orders for the iPad Mini on Friday. The new, smaller version of the iPad tablet starts at $329. Initial shipments of the white model quickly sold out on Apple's site; buyers will now have to wait two weeks for delivery. The black model was still available Friday afternoon for a one-week delivery.

Hurricane Sandy lashes Cuba; Northeast next week?

Hurricane Sandy, growing stronger over warm Caribbean waters, lashed eastern Cuba with heavy rains and rising winds on Wednesday as it bore down on the communist island after ripping across Jamaica.

At least 55,000 people had been evacuated, Cuban officials said, principally because of expected flooding from rains that could total up to 20 inches in some places and a storm surge the Cuban weather service said was already beginning along the southeastern coast.

They said the surge could reach 6 feet, with waves up to 26 feet expected to pound the coast.

Forecasters said there's a chance Sandy will eventually hug the East Coast and possibly even make landfall in the Northeast.

The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore said hurricane-force gusts could start to hit the east coast of Florida by Friday.

One of two computer models being tracked has Sandy moving inland over the Northeast by early Tuesday morning, NBC News meteorologist Al Roker said on TODAY.

That scenario is more likely to play out, he added, if the jet stream curves back and allows "Sandy to hug the coast and bring it as either a tropical storm or very weak hurricane."

In that case, the Northeast could see 10-12 inches of rain along the Eastern Seaboard.

Video: Sandy could head for Northeast

The storm, with sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, was intensifying over 88-degree Fahrenheit waters and could climb from a Category 1 storm to Category 2 on the five-step Saffir-Simpson hurricane intensity scale, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory.

A Category 2 storm has winds between 96 and 110 mph.

Sandy was located 85 miles southwest of Guantanamo, Cuba, and moving north at 13 mph, the center said.

Flights suspended
The eye of the storm was expected to make landfall near Santiago de Cuba, the country's second-largest city, 470 miles southeast of Havana, Cuban forecasters said.

They said it would cross the island within a few hours, heading north toward the Bahamas, where hurricane warnings have been posted for the southeastern Ragged Islands. A tropical storm watch was in place for south Florida.

The Cuban government suspended flights to and from eastern Cuba, along with bus and train service in the area.

Officials put agricultural products including sugar and coffee into warehouses out of harm's way. Almost 3,000 Cubans working on the coffee harvest in Santiago de Cuba were sent home.

In Holguin province, processing plants for nickel, Cuba's main export, continued operations, Cuban television said.

Cubans said they were battening down the hatches as the storm approached.

"The weather is getting very ugly," said self-employed worker Esteban O'Reilly in Santiago de Cuba.

"I've lit a candle to the Virgin of Charity, the patron saint of Cuba, to ask that Sandy not do much damage," said O'Reilly, 45.

At the Guantanamo Bay U.S. Naval Base, winds near 50 mph were blowing heavy rains sideways and rattling doors at a base hotel, said Reuters reporter Jane Sutton, who was at the base to cover war crimes tribunals.

Electricity was out and all but emergency workers were confined to quarters, she said.

Military officials said most of the 166 prisoners at Guantanamo were already housed in buildings capable of withstanding a hurricane, and the few who were not had been moved to safe quarters.

In Jamaica, Sandy caused widespread power outages, flooded streets, damaged homes and caused at least one death.

"A part of the roof of my veranda just went like that," said Walford Freak, 55, who lives in the coastal city of Iter Boreale. "At least five of my neighbors have lost their entire roofs."

A police official said a man died under a crush of stones that fell from a hillside as he tried to get into his house in a rural village near Kingston, Jamaica's capital.

The Miami area should see the worst from Sandy on Thursday night and Friday, the National Weather Service stated. Strong winds, beach erosion and heavy rain are possible across Southeast Florida, it added.

"It is a big storm and it's going to grow in size after it leaves Cuba," NHC forecaster Michael Brennan told Reuters.

He said the storm's wind field was likely to extend 200 miles west from the center as it passed over the Bahamas, causing "very high surf and dangerous conditions all the way up the east coast into the Carolinas."

"These rains may produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides ... especially in areas of mountainous terrain," the hurricane center warned.

Storm surge could also raise water levels on Jamaica's south and east coasts by 1 to 3 feet above normal tide levels, the center added, and as much as 4 to 7 feet above normal in the Bahamas on Friday.

Out in the deep Atlantic, Tropical Storm Tony formed overnight but posed no threat to land as it moved northeast.

Reuters contributed to this report.

Final Farewell for a quiet hero | The Stillwater Gazette

Retired Army nurse Carol Kelm served her country, community

Kelm

Family, friends and fellow veterans will bid their final good-bye to retired U.S. Army Maj. Carol Kelm Saturday morning at Fairview Cemetery.

The Stillwater VFW Post No. 323 Honor Guard will conduct Kelm?s gravesite service with full military honors befitting a veteran who served her country as an Army nurse in three wars, made the military her career, rose to the highest rank a woman could reach in the Army when she served and was a VFW life member.

But Saturday?s service cannot adequately remember a woman with a fierce independent streak who gave back to her community for many years after her retirement.

?She lived alone. She never asked anybody for help,? said Kelm?s nephew, David Carlson.

Carlson moved back to Stillwater from Appleton, Wis., in 2010, in time to take care of his aunt, who was in poor health.

?It was a good thing that we did because that?s when she started to fail,? he said.

Kelm passed away Sept. 14 at age 97. She lived in her small lakeside home in Lake Elmo up to her death, Carlson said.

Submitted Photo
Retired Army Maj. Carol Kelm, center is shown with two colleagues at one of the many military hospitals she was stationed. A graveside service for Kelm, who died in September is Saturday at Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater.

Carlson said his aunt was born and raised in Stillwater, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1935. Kelm went on to earn a teaching degree from Winona State Teachers College and teach physical education for five years, Carlson added.

World War II was raging when Kelm joined the Army in the mid-1940s, Carlson said.

?The Army sent her to nurses training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,? he said.

From Rochester, Kelm served as a nurse during the last days of World War II in 1945, Carlson said.

?When she was in Japan, she volunteered to treat victims of the atomic bombs,? Carlson said about his aunt.

The Army became Kelm?s career, Carlson said. His aunt served at military hospitals in Orleans, France; Osaka, Japan, and every major U.S. military hospital until retiring in 1966, Carlson said.

?Her military service spanned three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam,? he said.

Kelm returned to Lake Elmo, built a house on the city?s namesake lake and indulged in her love for fishing, Carlson said.

?Her first passion in life was fishing. Her most important day of the year was the opening of bass fishing,? he said

Carlson said Kelm would carry her outboard motor to her boat. When lugging an outboard motor became too hard, Kelm would bring oars to her boat, he added. Eventually, age forced Kelm to fish off her dock, he said.

Fishing wasn?t Kelm?s only interest, Carlson said. She hunted, traveled, climbed mountains, played baseball and basketball and bowled.

?She was an avid bowler. She bowled in Stillwater for years,? he said.

Kelm also gave back to the community by volunteering at local nursing homes as a physical therapist and speaking at schools.

?That was in the early years (of her retirement). She did that up into the ?90s,? Carlson said. ?She visited elementary schools and talked about the war and her travels.?

Kelm?s death leaves Carlson and his wife with a lot of memories of his aunt. That?s because he said Kelm left a house full of carefully labeled and organized slides of her travels.

?She documented everything,? he said.

And that might be a good thing, because Carlson said his aunt?s passing marks the end of her family?s lineage in the Valley.

?She is the last of the Kelm family,? he said.

The Stillwater Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 323 Honor Guard will conduct a graveside service with military honors for Maj. Carol V. Kelm, who passed away Sept. 14, 2012, at the age of 96. Maj. Kelm was a life member of the VFW.

The service is 11 a.m. Saturday just south of the main flagpole at Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater. The family invites all who wish to attend.

Animal Hoarding: More Than 50 Pets Removed From California Home

animal cruelty claims

Santa Ana, CA ? More than 50 dogs and cats were seized from a home animal service workers described as ?filthy? on Wednesday. Nancy Richling, 62, may face animal cruelty charges for the conditions the creatures were living in on her property.

The animal hoarding seizure included 49 flea-ridden cats, many of which were also reportedly plagued by mange and other diseases, according to ABC News. The Santa Ana Animal Services agency allegedly tried to work with Richling for months before entering her home and rescuing the dogs and cats. Some of the animals had eye infections, ear mites, abscesses, and torn corneas, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Animal Services Supervisor Sondra Berg had this to say about the hoarding case:

?There?s a lot of feces and urine, the carpet is completely soaked throughout the house. This is only the beginning of a long process. If they don?t seek help for the illness that they have, then the recidivism rate is 97 percent, so we?re going to be back out here doing this again eventually. ?

Nancy?s neighbors were reportedly very glad to see the animal services workers arrive. Folks living near the animals which were alleged housed in unsanitary conditions were voiced concerns over possible health issues for humans in the neighborhood.

An unnamed neighbor had this to say about living near the Richling residence:

?Our yard is full of fleas right now, and the house, you?ll see fleas here and there. You?ll sit down and a flea will crawl up your arm. It?s a nightmare.?

Some of the rescued cats are feral, posing yet more neighbor concerns about health issues. Berg noted that she and her coworkers had to watch out for one another inside the home because the cats huddled in a fairly concentrated area and often jumped on the rescuer?s back and tried to attack their faces.

All of the cats and dogs taken from the California home will be given medical care at a local shelter and hopefully be available healthy enough for adoption in the near future.

(AP) ? Middle-earth will sound more realistic in "The Hobbit."

Dolby Laboratories Inc. and director Peter Jackson's Park Road Post Production announced Wednesday that "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" will be mixed and released in Dolby Atmos, the company's immersive new sound system that features two extra arrays of overhead speakers and the ability to direct sounds to individual speakers inside movie theaters.

"(Jackson) felt it was going to make a big difference in how he tells stories," said Stuart Bowling, Dolby's senior technical marketing manager. "He doesn't want people to just go and observe his movies. He wants you to feel like you're part of the experience of the stories that's he's trying to tell on the screen and allow you to be part of Middle-earth."

The director of the Oscar-winning "The Lord of the Rings" films adapted J.R.R. Tolkien's tale of Bilbo Baggins, set in the fictional realm of Middle-earth 60 years before "The Lord of the Rings." Besides the standard 2-D format, Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures are releasing the series in high-frame-rate 3-D, IMAX and other 3-D formats.

Bowling said Dolby's goal is to have the Atmos platform installed in 80 to 100 theaters in time for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 14.

The second and third films, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," are set for release Dec. 13, 2013, and July 18, 2014.

Other movies slated to be released in the Atmos format include Fox's "Chasing Mavericks" and "Life of Pi." Disney-Pixar's "Brave" was the first film to debut with the audio format earlier this year.

Bowling said the company expects more than 15 films to be released in Atmos next year and hoped to have the system in 1,000 theaters by the end of next year.

"Dolby Atmos is fantastic from a sound quality position," said John Neill, head of sound at Park Road Post Production. "We can now hear full range surround speakers, meaning that when we pan from the front to surround, the sound does not change in quality. The overhead speakers give us the opportunity to place the theater patron really in the location."

Jackson shot "The Hobbit" in 3-D and at 48 frames a second, twice the speed that's been the standard since the 1920s. He received a mixed reception for high-frame-rate preview footage of "The Hobbit" at the Cinema Con theater owner's convention last year. Some thought the images were too clear and realistic, taking away from the magic of the film medium.

Apple unveils new version of iBooks with continuous scrolling

Apple CEO Tim Cook took to a San Jose theater stage today to unveil a new version of the company's literature-based digital storefront, iBooks. Cook says it integrates better with iCloud, allows for quote sharing on Facebook and Twitter, and has support for "over 40 languages." Beyond the app update info, Cook touted iBook's sales exceeding 400 million books worldwide -- not too shabby! The updated iBooks app should be available today on the iOS App Store, though it's not there just yet.

Additive restores antibiotic effectiveness against MRSA

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Researchers from North Carolina State University have increased the potency of a compound that reactivates antibiotics against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), an antibiotic-resistant form of Staphylococcus that is notoriously difficult to treat. Their improved compound removes the bacteria's antibiotic resistance and allows the antibiotic to once again become effective at normal dosage levels.

NC State chemist Christian Melander had previously proven the effectiveness of a 2-aminoimidazole compound in reactivating antibiotics against resistant bacterial strains. However, the original compound was not potent enough. In his latest work, described in a paper appearing in Angewandte Chemie, Melander, research assistant professor Roberta Worthington and graduate student Tyler Harris have solved the potency issue, bringing them one step closer to in vivo testing.

"You measure antibiotic effectiveness by growing bacteria in the presence of an antibiotic," Melander says. "The concentration you typically want to observe is about one microgram per milliliter or less of the antibiotic to halt bacterial growth. At that point the bacterial strain is considered susceptible to and treatable by that antibiotic. If a higher concentration of antibiotic is required to halt bacterial growth, the bacterial strain in question is considered untreatable. Some of the MRSA strains we work with require 512 micrograms per milliliter of the antibiotic of choice to control growth ? 500 times over the limit. Adding our compound brought the level down to one microgram per milliliter again."

The compound works by short-circuiting the bacteria's ability to mount a defense against the antibiotic. When antibiotics interact with bacteria, receptors on the surface of the bacteria identify the antibiotic as a threat and the bacteria can then choose what to do to survive. MRSA either creates a biofilm or makes genetic changes that prevent the antibiotic from disrupting its cell structure. According to Melander, "We believe that our compound renders the bacteria unable to recognize the antibiotic as a threat, essentially stopping the defensive process before it can begin."

Obesity Action Coalition Your Weight Matters Convention

I'm excited to head off to Dallas, Texas this week to attend the Obesity Action Coalition "Your Weight Matters" Inaugural Convention. I first announced it back in March and it seemed so far away and now it's finally here!
The agenda is AWESOME. So many great health, weight loss, body image, surgery, fitness, obesity related topics will be covered. Thursday we'll be getting some advocacy training. It's so close to Halloween we'll be celebrating that with a party on Friday night. There is also an awards dinner on Saturday night and get this yours truly will be wearing her first dress in public since my teens. I have worn a dress as part of a Halloween costume and I think I wore a skirt once to something years ago but this is a full on, girlie, had to go buy hose, dressy dress. I'm scared. I'll snap a pic or two for proof as it may never happen again.

I'll be tweeting at the event so if you'd like to keep up with all the convention chatter and see if you'd like to attend next year. Follow me @eggface and the event hashtag #OACConvention of course I'll do a wrap-up post with stories and pictures when I get back.

Sunday some of us will be walking in the Dallas Walk from Obesity, drawing attention to obesity and the need for treatment and prevention efforts. I want to thank the AWESOME folks that donated and helped me reach my personal fundraising goal. Our team raised over $6,000.

Thank you to my ?? rock star friends ?? who donated already: Laura F., Rachel, L., Lois L., Pandora W., Stephanie C., Kat. L., Michael. S., Rebekah L., Leigh Ann S., DJ R., Karin P., Janice B., Becky S., Maureen C., Michele W., Jill H., Franna T., Barbara H., Erica G., Lester G., Laura J., Julie. B., Mary C., Susan S., Kelly C., Dana K., Peggy E., Rebecca C., Donna T., Coleen G., Linda P., Mandi R., Rae T., Andrea H., Catheryn E. and Lynnda S.

There's still time to donate and anyone who donates to my page (even $1) will be entered into a drawing for a mystery box of goodies. I'll pull a name from the donors on November 1st.

Well I better start packing. I have to check a bag. I hate to check but I have that aforementioned dress, a Halloween costume, sneakers and stuff for the walk as well as all my regular every day clothes. I've done nothing. I put the PRO in procrastination. Well I shouldn't say nothing, I did start getting my carry-on bag/purse filled with my must have near me at all times stuff.

I love this purse - I had a blue one exactly the same and used it forever, I still have it but it's kind of looking weathered. It fits everything computer, magazines, snacks, and some of my travel must haves...

Something that makes me feel better when hurling through the sky in a large tube made of metal. My Aura Cacia Panic Button Aromatherapy. I love this one and Chill Pill. One of those is always with me.

Breathsavers 3 hour Mints - Addicted. This 1/2 Sicilian girl never fears garlic or onions at lunch.

My Armpocket - My latest find. It's basically an armband version of a fanny pack but umm hip and cooler. It velcros around your arm so you can walk hands free and still have you phone, ID, cash, keys on you just in case.

The little window lets you still access your phone screen for changing songs or checking the time. It's been great on my nightly walks. I'll be using it on this Sunday's Walk from Obesity. There's surprisingly a lot of room in it so would be great for a longer hike as you could probably get a baggie of almonds or a protein bar in there too.

I've got some snacks - an Apple Pie Quest Protein Bar and a Premiere Titan Oatmeal Raisin protein cookie. I usually bring a blender ball shaker with protien packets but a little bird told me Chike Nutrition will be passing out shake samples so between them and Celebrate Vitamins who will be there too with their yummy ENS I think I'll be good to go in the protein department. I might add a baggie of raw almonds or crunchamame.

Reading material. I love one of the cover articles. "Eat healthy & Love it" Yup. Every day! My "As Seen on TV" Coin Purse. My Lauren's Hope Medical ID, Blistex, Sunglasses and various other stuff I must have with me at all times.

OK off to pack.

iPad mini announced at Apple event in California

Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller introduces the new iPad mini during an Apple event in San Jose, California October 23, 2012.?

Robert Galbraith/REUTERS

Apple debuted the iPad mini on Tuesday.?

?

SAN JOSE, Calif. ?? Apple Inc. on Tuesday revealed a smaller version of its hit iPad tablet computer that will start at $329 and comes with a screen that's about two-thirds the size of the full-size model.

?

Apple starts taking orders for the new model on Friday Oct. 26 and will ship the Wi-Fi-only models on Nov. 2, said marketing chief Phil Schiller at an event in San Jose, Calif. Later, the company will add models capable of accessing "LTE" wireless data networks.

?

The iPad mini weighs 0.68 pounds, half as much as the full-size iPad, and is as thin as a pencil, Schiller said.

?

The screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels, the same as the iPad 2 and a quarter of the resolution of the third-generation iPad.

?

"It's not just a shrunken down iPad, it's an entirely new design," Schiller said.

?

Company watchers have for a year been expecting the company to release a smaller iPad to counter cheaper tablets like Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire. However, most were expecting it to cost between $250 and $300. At $329, it's twice the price of the basic Kindle Fire.

?

In a surprise, Apple also said it's upgrading its full-size iPad tablet just six months after launching a new model, doubling the speed of the processor. Previously, the company has updated the iPad once a year.

?

The fourth-generation iPad will have a better camera and work on more "LTE" wireless data networks around the world. Apple is also replacing the 30-pin dock connector with the new, smaller "Lightning" connector introduced with the iPhone 5 a month ago.

?

The price of the new full-size model stays the same as the previous version, starting at $499 for a Wi-Fi-only version with 16 gigabytes of memory.

Gambhir, Sehwag form a cause of worry ? Kapil Dev ? Cricket News Update

Former Indian skipper, Kapil Dev, has conceded that the slump in form witnessed by the opening duo of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir must be a cause of serious concern for the national team as they gear up for the home Test series against England.

Both men have been in the thick of news for their poor showing over the past 12 months, which have been marked as the lowest under Mahendra Singh Dhoni?s tenure. Following the team?s thrilling success in the World Cup last year, things haven?t gone to plan where they have to deal with humiliating losses against England and Australia away from home.

The team relinquished their Test supremacy to the Poms, and further failed to win a game in any format. They then suffered a similar fate Down Under, routed by a 4-0 margin in the Test arena before failing to reach the finals of the Common Wealth Bank Series.

The poor performances continued in the subcontinent where they remained unsuccessful in defending their Asia Cup crown. After starting the current season brightly, against Sri Lanka, the team suffered a Super Eight round elimination in the World T20.

The lack of runs at the top has been a major worry for the team, which further led to speculations of a rift between senior players and Dhoni during the Australian tour. Gambhir has averaged a mediocre 24.36 in Test cricket in his last 12 matches, while Sehwag?s batting average of 30.60 (11 Tests) is well below his career average, which stands at an impressive 50.64. Moreover, both men have failed to score a three-figure score during that period.

Kapil believes that they carry big reputations and therefore, must show their prowess in the upcoming series. The first Test against England starts on November 15.

"Of course, it is a cause of worry if players of that calibre don't get runs. They have big reputations and when you have such big reputations then there is a case for you to defend that," Kapil said on the sidelines of the Junior National tennis Championships where he was chief guest for the finals.

"They are big players and it is important for them to score runs not only for the team but also for themselves otherwise there will be worrying signs," he added.

(AP) ? Under a canopy of soldiers' drawn swords as church bells tolled, Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg and Belgian Countess Stephanie de Lannoy emerged smiling Saturday from the tiny duchy's Notre Dame Cathedral after wrapping up a two-day wedding gala with a religious ceremony.

Onlookers and well-wishers lined the super-scrubbed streets near the cathedral and roared with joy as the newlyweds looked down from a red velvet-covered palace balcony, and haltingly ? but deeply ? kissed for the crowd.

The church wedding of Prince Guillaume ? the 30-year-old heir to the throne and Luxembourg's grand duke-to-be ? and the Belgian countess drew top-drawer guest list. It came a day after a civil ceremony at Luxembourg City Hall.

The bearded groom and his 28-year-old blonde bride were trailed by a procession of well-known royals, including Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden, Prince Naruhito of Japan, and Britain's Prince Edward ? Queen Elizabeth's youngest child ? and his wife, Sophie.

Stephanie plans to renounce her Belgian citizenship in order to ? one day ? become Luxembourg's grand duchess. The tiny country wedged between France, Belgium and Germany is an important financial center and continues to prosper despite Europe's economic trouble.

Stephanie wore a lace Elie Saab dress with a 5-meter-long wedding train during the ceremony, which was conducted in a mixture of French, German and Luxembourgish. It began with a minute's silence to honor her late mother, Countess Alix de Lannoy.

For the wedding banquet attended by 800 people, Bocuse d'Or-winning chef Lea Linster ? herself from Luxembourg ? whipped up a buffet medley including Riesling-marinated pork and veal pate, lobster in gelee consomme, and sea bass in salted crust and thyme stuffing; dessert included Madeleine cakes, choux a la creme pastries, and creme brulee.

Later in the evening, the royal couple walked through town, shaking hands with well-wishers before a fireworks show. Afterward, they drove off in a limousine with a sign on the back that read "Just Married" in Luxembourgish.

The nuptials gave tiny Luxembourg ? a founding member of the predecessor of the European Union ? a rare moment in the international media spotlight. With a population of just over 500,000, the trilingual duchy punches above its weight: Besides being an important financial center, it's home to the world's largest steel manufacturer and it boasts the second-highest gross domestic product per capita in the world, more than $80,000.

Luxembourg began as a Roman fortress. It has, at one time or another, fallen under the control of Spain, France and Austria. In 1839, it gained its independence from the Netherlands, but lost more than half its territory to Belgium. Germany overran Luxembourg twice in the 20th century despite its protests of neutrality.

The current grand duke, Henri, who is 57, is popular. People can greet him on the street without bowing down before him. His 31-year marriage to Grand Duchess Maria Teresa appears to be very happy.

The newlyweds seem to be happy too: In public appearances, including at the London Olympics, they have appeared besotted with each other.

After watching the ceremony on a big-screen on a public square near the cathedral, royal-gazing fans sensed the joy and historical importance.

"It was a really big moment ? a really beautiful moment," said Claudine Als, clutching a glass of Champagne, seemingly awaiting a toast. "It is a historic day for Luxembourg, the country shines throughout the world."
